My buddys wife wants to get him a really good fillet knife for Valentines day and asked me what was a good brand to get. I told her I wasnt sure but I knew a place that would be able to guide us in the right direction and thats why I am on here asking you fine folks...lol

IMHO , you can't beat the old wood handle rapala. The blade has the right
flex and very easy to keep sharp .

I use Knives of Alaska filet knives. I have a Coho model (8 1/2") and a Steelhead (6"). I'm happy with them, but if I have a limit to clean (rare in my case) then I whip out the electric. American Angler or something like that.

I have Dexter, Rapala, and Cut Co. Out of all of the m the Cut Co is best, but the Dexter is the best bang for the buck. As far as electric, American Angler is the way to go, none of the gear boxes hold up well IMO.

I saw a Bubba knife at the local Walmart, about $50. Pricey, but I hear they are good.

You can spend tons of money on a knife. Mostly it depends on what you are cleaning. If you are doing crappie, sand bass, bass and stripers less that 10# then buy a Black and Decker electric knife at Wally World. I was told to use that knife by several guides back in the 80's. They don't work very well on big Redfish or big Stripers. I have bought about all of the other knives on the market and always go back to B & D. I got a Bubba Blade for Christmas. I tried it on some fish we caught on PK and left lots of meat on the bones. Good luck.
