So I understand you have to have the 360 light to be seen by everyone else on the water, and I have the visicarbon pro for that, but its so bright that it reduces my night vision to about nothin, so I can't see much ahead of me, or to the sides. Maybe it's just because I have it in my flush mounted rod holder behind my seat, but I'm thinking I need either a headlamp or more lights on the kayak for me to be able to see where I'm going a bit better.

Any recommendations on a headlamp or ways to rig up some more lights for me to be able to see better on the water?

Edit: also on an unrelated note, how do you guys and gals keep your feet warm when fishing? When I was out last night I just couldn't stand it any more and had to head in earlier than I planned because my feet were so cold. I only had on a thick pair of socks under my waders though, so maybe I just need one more pair of socks to wear over that one

I also need a recommendation on a big wading boot, I bought some ray fairs reef boots from academy in size 15 (I wear a size 14) and I couldn't get them over my waders, so could anyone recommend me a bigger shoe?

I used a head lamp to see but still seemed like I could only see so far. And for keeping my feet warm I took some hot hands hand warmers and put them on my toes inside my mud boots and my toes and feet were nice and warm. Open the hand warmers about an hour before you hit the water that way they are heated up good. They last like 12 hrs so you don't have to worry about them running out if heat.

I use theBlack Diamond ReVolt which essentially has a high beam and low beam LEDs.

As far as boots go you typically have to jump up 2 to 3 sizes to accommodate the neoprene booties and thick, wool socks that you wear.

You could mount the light at the very back of the kayak, and/or rig a shield like a small pie plate right under the light so it's not shining straight down but is still visible for 360 degrees. A lot of people also run strips of LED lights along the bow of their kayak to attract fish or for visibility.

I use a white plastic Advil bottle over my Visicarbon Pro. It diffuses the light, makes it much softer and really helps with night blindness but is still very visible. If there's any moon at all I will use very little light other than my head lamp on low for hooks and bait work.

As far as keeping my feet warm I use one thick pair of wool socks and my insulated Muck boots until temps are into the 20's Once temps drop below 30 degs I'll spray my feet with antiperserspirant to help with sweating, then I add another pair of thinner wool socks under my thick wool socks and put on my Mucks, no cold feet.
REMEMBER, if your socks or boots are tight or your feet get wet you will have cold feet.

I like the advil bottle idea! And thanks for the information about tight socks making your feet cold. Looks like I'll be getting a head lamp and some better fitting wool socks before I go out again.

Now if only I knew where the catfish are in the lake!
