Me and my wife are wanting to hit the water this weekend but we are clueless as to which lake to fish. She wants to go to the lake with the best possibility to catch some fish. We live in ellis county so something not too far from there would be ideal. 2 weeks ago we went to Waxahachie lake where we have had success before but got skunked. We have also had success at bardwell but not during this time of year. Any tips or pointers would be greatly appreciated.

D-Mert - I am new to the area but it seems that Squaw Creek may be the hot lake right now that is closest to you. I just joined a club and we will be there in a couple of weeks. It does require a permit which I think you can buy in advance or at the lake. Here is a copy from the website.

Public access is provided at Squaw Creek Park, open Thursday through Sunday for day use only. Reservations are required for boat permits, available Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Admission is $5 per person for bank fishing; $30 for a boat permit. For boat reservations and additional information, visit the park website at www.luminant.com/SquawCreekPark.

Go to Clark lake in Ennis. Rip spoons up from the bottom. In 20ft of water. I caught around 100 in two hours that way last Sunday. Hell, I think MY WIFE, who hates to fish, would enjoy that kind of return on your effort. Lol.

Well my wife loves to bass fish but she is still new and hasn't quite gotten the concept that sometimes you just get skunked. I will tell you that she hates Clark lake haha we've been there several times and she has yet to catch a bass there. Like I said in the original post, we have been to bardwell a lot and that has become one of her favorite lakes because this past summer we would go and catch 20 bass every trip out there. Have not fished it in winter though. I'm just really wanting to go somewhere where we have a chance to get on some fish. I'm also not the best at finding fish with my electronics. I play more of the guessing game and think, hmmm looks like there might be some fish here haha
