So I am finally upgrading from my old used and abused Lightning rods. Gonna be fishing out of the yak mostly...jigging and casting jigs and small cranks. Read a lot of positive things about Pro Angler rods and I am leaning that way. Thinkin about getting a 6.5' and a 8'...but have never used them. I do dock/bank fish regularly as well, so castability and backbone are important. I know $50 aint much, but explaining fishing gear to a pregnant wife is futile!!! Any input is greatly appreciated! BTW, will be putting them w Pflueger President reels if that matters. Thanks and tight lines!

Get a bass pro microlite rod in a 7'6" UL action, put your choice of small reel on it. I use these rods personally and on all of my guide trips and i have no complaints, plus you can buy gear guard and and if you break it they replace it. I think that rod is $44. I throw small cranks, small top waters, rooster tails, and jig fish for crappie with these rods. The 7'6" and a full spool of line will cast a 1/32 oz jig under a bobber as far as you would ever need effortlessly.

The pro angler is a good rod, but when it comes to one rod to do it all. I would also look at the ugly stik, and lew's. Both are tops for one rod fishing and can be found at any store around.

You have suggested two excellent rods at any price. Both PAs you listed will do anything you want. They are much lighter than the off the shelf rods.

I enjoy my ugly stick elite, I use it for casting in the spring and the little winter creek fishing I do... 49.99 is the normal price but it's always a nice deal to be found on them in the spring...

I use a 6ft Ugly Stik GX2 UL and a Shimano Sedona and I carry a backup 7ft medium Berkley Cherrywood HD with a Sedona on it in case the sandbass and hybrids start biting and I need more backbone. The ugly stik is fantastic and my go to now for feeling bites as well as being able to cast from the creek bank around cover.

walmart or academy has 7 foot light action shakespeare micro series spinning rods around 18 bucks each, shimano ultalite graphite basic spinning reels for around 15 bucks or the optix reels around 20 , I have fished mine pretty hard and and have had good luck with them, if your just targeting crappies they're a great deal

In that price range I would go with Pro Anglers or the BPS micro Lites. I have several of both. Pro anglers are tough rods. Little man has had one a couple years now and he hasn't torn it up yet. That speaks volume to me!!

I took it over to Ed and told him what happened. Without hesitation, he told me to go over and grab me another tip. How much did I spend on the tip, $0.00... Nothing but great service for me.

Ugly Stik makes all sizes and if you break one (doubt it) you can get a replacement from Shakespeare. Had Ugly Stik rods forever. Cheaper, more durable and most rods sold than ANY other rod on the market hands down and that is fact. Look it up on google. I just don't see spending my hard earned money on a "name brand" just becasue others say they like it and to me seem to want to be part of "the club" using that name brand equipment. I am a rebel and like to go on my own based on facts and information. I have seen rods come and go and you cannot beat a Shakespeare Ugly Stik rod. It will be around long after these fad name brands die. I'll see any of you in 10-20 years time and I bet I still have my Ugly Stik rods and you will have a shiny new "whatever is the fad" rod. Probably the 10th rod you may have bought since first starting out. Where I am still fishing with the same durable rod I bought when I started. Think of the money saved! I can live with that. best-rod-reel-for-most-fishers best-fishing-rod-brands-top-10-list

my favorite rod was my my 8'ft pro angler until my tip snapped on a simple cast. I had it for 2 years. I also know 2 other guys that snapped the tip this year. I'd buy another one though.
