Hey Everyone, I'm looking to buy a new rod & reel combo for crappie fishing and I thought I would see what y'all recommend. I am definitely not a hard core crappie fisherman but I find my self getting more interested in it as I read more about it.

I would get a wally marshall "mr crappie" 6, 7 or 8 ft rod with a spinning real. they also come in a rod and reel combo. they are a great rod and reel for the money. I would go to academy to look at them and academy always have specials on their rods and reels. hope this helps and once you feel the thump a couple times you will be a hard core crappie fisherman, it is addictive!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Are you going to be bank fishing or ftom a boat. If you have time before you decide attend one of the Crappie Madness Seminars to get a better idea of your options.

Spot on suggestions. I would suggest investing a few dollars towards a cane pole, as well. Something special about catching crappie on one.

Thanks for the input guys. Here's a little more info, I will be boat fishing and I am looking at going with a bait cast type reel. BPS has a 9 foot rod and BC type reel for crappie fishing. I think its called the MAXX Slab Grabber.

I think its called the MAXX Slab Grabber. Cabellas had the Abu Black Max reel for $29.00. in their bargain cave online. It weighs less than 8 oz. pair that with a Pro Angler 8 ft rod. This would be a great rig for brush, timber and bridges. Mo

For jigging crappie, what action of rod do y'all prefer?
