I have a 94 60 hp johnson with a bad fuel pump. I no longer use the oil injection system. The replacement pump is pricey but not needed since I mix the oil and gas. My question is can I put a less expensive fuel pump on?

Remove all of the oil and fuel components and install an electric fuel pump. Have done a bunch using a Mister Gasket low pressure pump. Just connect the purple wire that went to the VRO pump to the red of the electric pump. I have used a bunch of these without any problems: eBay item number:

The electric pump will work although you need to regulate it. Might gain a little by not using crankcase pressure. Personally I would just use a vacuum pump from an older motor. Sierra offers a couple. While you have the starter off. Replace all of the other fuel lines. I use clear blue lines from the dirtbike world.

I use the electric pumps too. No more having to pump the bulb. They work great.

Me too! Best thing I ever did, typically they will last me about 4 years. If the motor fails to crank it is the 1st thing I check. Oil & gas mixture is always correct when mixed in the gas tank.
