Tried this on another site, hope I get as good advice here.

Taking the wife on a recon north of our usual place in Rockport tomorrow. Will drive north along 35 from Fulton to Seadrift to Port O'Connor then to Port Lavaca and Palacios. Leaving the boat but bringing our rods.

Primary goal is to find a new place; but I can't go near salt water without fishing. Where are some good shore fishing spots to try? Will hopefully overnight somewhere with decent fishing.

'Fess up!

EDIT: If you see a large tall bearded person fishing come say hello. I will be the guy with her.

Curious about this, too. Was in Rockport for work last week but wasn't in town long enough to get a line wet, and wouldn't have known where to throw it if I had the time.

Without a boat Seadrift is a bust. POC has the little jetties and bay front with a south wind. Pier at Indianola at mouth of powder horn. Wade sand flats across 35 from Port Lavaca at point comfort.

Where is your road trip taking you? Need to know that before pointers can be given.

Man up. Fight the GOOD fight.

Thanks for the advice! The bull figured out it could jump the cattle guard and had to spend the time off building a fence (typical). We'll use the info next month.

Palacios has the pier by the ramp that's public u less that church camp there is having an event on it. There's also a road north of that where you can pull off under a bridge. It's not deep or very wide but I've pulled flounder out of there from right up against the bridge pilings on mud minnows. Indianola has the convenience store that you can fish the mouth of Powdergorn from, but it's a pretty good drop to the water and the water really moves through there with a tire. I've hopped the knee-high railing behind LaSalle before (you'll see him) and have caught some decent reds rising under the trees on cold spoons and rooster tails. Keep your lure moving there, the bottom is crawling with rig-eating rocks. Oh, and if you find LaSalle's sword he wants it back. Also at Indianolla, there's a bunch of private piers along the waterfront. Most are gated and locked, but there's a good chance of catching from the shore if you can turn their head before they wrap you up. The foundation of the old Indianola courthouse is right there somewhere and not far from shore, but you'll need a boat with a depth finder to locate it. There's flounder in there up against the walls.
