I bought one already or I would have been interested. I have not even installed mine yet. Do you like them and just have an extra or do not like?

Have not ever heard or seen one of these. Have a Maxxum 80b Minn Kota.
Do they really 'work' ?? Just looking for feedback.
God Bless
Lee

Truthfully, I have never used one. Everyone I have talked to and every review has been highly favorable toward the product. I decided to get a different color. I will ship for an additional 5.00. This is the Billet Aluminum color. Thanks again and all PMs answered.

Thanks, Brian. BTW, the "engineering answer" I get on what it does is that it plays the same role as a harmonic balancer on an engine. Here's a hypothetical example: If the balance of the prop is off by 1/8th of an ounce on a 10 ounce prop and you add 10 ounces of weight evenly, you reduce the percentage of the imbalance by 50%, making the prop spin more quietly/smoothly. It seems like a harmless thing we can do and hope!

Can you give me the math behind that? I don't disbelieve you, I'm just curious how you got that reduction. Trying to learn something every day!

Will that fit a Minn Kota Maxxum 101?

Yes, it does work. It definateley reduces the noise and vibration the motor puts off

Of course, I just picked some numbers as examples, but the concept still applies. The after-market product is precision machined from aluminum stock - something that has a very consistent mass. Inspecting one leads me to believe it was milled in a lathe that uses the prop-shaft bore hole as the center; the resulting "nut" will be very evenly balanced. Say it weighs 8 ounces and is out of balance by 1/32 of an ounce. The imbalance in percentage is a mere 0.03125/8 or 0.39%

The plastic injection molded prop isn't nearly as exact or predictable as the aluminum. Say it weighs 8 ounces also, but is out of balance by 1/4 of an ounce. The imbalance in percentage is .25/8 or 3.125%

Now, put them together. Total weight is 16 ounces, imbalance is .28125 ounce (1/4 + 1/32). Now the ratio of imbalance drops to .28125/16, or 1.76%. The original prop by itself was out of balance by 3.125%, but we've now reduced that to 1.76% by adding the more accurate aluminum balancer nut. Yes, the numbers are small, but there's a ~44% reduction in imbalance with just a simple add-on.

Whatever the real numbers are, the balance improves as long as the machined aluminum added is balanced better than the injection molded "plastic" material already on the propshaft. There are other aspects of harmonic balancers that are positive that are not included in this example of how the % is improved.
