So do u think the bass will go back to spawning locations of years past, will they be where they are supposed to be? Or will they be were they have been?

Absolutely, there's a reason why they spawned there in the first place.

They need to spawn where light penetration from the sun can help incubate the eggs. As a general rule, beds will be 1-6 ft deep. They will adapt, you will need to as well.

There is much new shallow cover on many lakes after a few years of drought and subsequent flooding in 2015. Lots of new prime spawning areas out there now.

Grout, I think he is asking "will they spawn in the same places when the lakes are full vs. when the lakes were down?". To that direct question, I'm going to answer differently, and guess you probably would too.

I do not believe that bass "remember" where they spawned previously. They simply seek the right place for their needs. If the lake changes in any way (lake elevation, water clarity, water temperature) the choices they make will be affected. They look for what they need for any given time, not just the spawn; where those locations are can change. They hold no allegiance or special fondness for a spot - unless conditions dictate that that spot is ideal for what they need.

Now, if they liked a certain area for spawning and were willing to spawn there when it was 18 inches deep, might they still spawn there when the water is 5' deep? Possibly - again, if the conditions are favorably met there. If they aren't, they will simply go to a place they like more.

I think they will spawn in the same General area, and same depth they've spawned at in yrs past. With that being said they probably won't be on same spots they were last year. With lakes being up from previous years.

Most of the places they "have been" in recent years, at least around the DFW area, are going to be 5-10' underwater. Not that fish don't spawn that deep, but most will be in the new shallows. And man I can't wait. . .

I have some places I've been scoping out since June. . .places I KNOW will have fish that I've never fished. I'm more excited for the spawn this year than I have been in years.
