since most of us use tm's with some sort of spot lock capabilities, I thought I would ask here. I am 2 years into my I pilot and am happy but I am also noticing alot of guys have issues with them at the year three marks it seems. Just wanted your thoughts about the xi5 if you have one, I am thinking about making a switch. I heard the ulterra is getting some upgrades this year so I will not be getting one of those till it gets figured out and tested alot.
currently using the 80 thrust 60" shaft saltwater i pilot on a 19ft center console. thanks in advance for all info good or bad!

I only fish on days that end in Y!

I'm going to an XI5 more than likely, I hate my I Pilot at this time. It has a new personality each time I use it. The Xi5 with dual GPS sensors hold pinpoint a lot better. I am hoping MK addresses this issue before I make a move, I would like to be able to keep my HBird's connected to my trolling motor, and upgrade to an Ulterra, but until I see one in action, I'm not buying another I Pilot.

Where did you hear the Ulterra was getting a upgrade?

I like my I Pilot but it does seem to wander up and back on spot lock.

Xi5 80# thrust 5'shaft on a 19' Kenner CC. Performs flawlessly. Anchor mode awesome.

My Ipilot is about to be 4 yrs old, and mine started wandering more last weekend. I was blaming it on the gusty winds, but it was over compensating quite a bit. Sometimes it just starts spinning around like the little girls head on the exorcist, and I have to unplug it before it wraps the head cables up.

I have I-pilots on three boats and they are workhorses, but I've heard form reliable sources that the Xi5 is much more precise on anchor mode. Its a very big deal to crappie fishermen.

Ive been on boats with both. The XI5 blows the ipilot out of the water with the GPS pinpoint. My terrova has been less than reliable as you know, but I bought it used ad I think Ive got my money's worth out of it. When it dies for good I'm making the switch.

Motorguide currently does not make an auto deploy

I have the I pilot link and love it with my hbirds units. I have had for several Yeats and really have not had any of the issues I keep hearing about, maybe I just got lucky

The crappie guy's seem to all agree that the XI5 is way more accurate. I've fished with a few and it will hold over a small brush pile. No way my ipilot would do that. However, for white and hybrid open water fishing the ipilot is plenty accurate enough in my opinion. The anchor lock feature ranks third only to fishing poles and sonar on my fishing tools list. We get spoiled and forget how great of a feature it is.

Owned two i-pilots and never had any issues with white bass/hybrid fishing ever. That being said, I switched over to the Xi5 for crappie and love it and still does everything needed for wb. Also, the Xi5 will hold you solid for cast netting for bait around bridges and bulk heads which I had problems with the minnkota.
