I was wondering how the organizers of tournaments make money? or they do not?

for weekend tournaments or opens i guess not.

but for stuff that is more organized like BLT and some other trails, do the organizers make money out of the entree fees?

Usually a percentage off every boat. Good Tournaments pay their people well.

Just take a look at results for any of the trails and see how much they paid out versus total entry fee's collected. If you draw boats you make more money, and of course then there is the membership fee. thumb

And they have "promoters" that pay for advertising. Most jackpot local stuff is a break even. Hell some I fish the tourney director enters the game as well. So they do to try to WIN your money as well.

I don't know, sure it varies a bunch. My guess every tourney aims to break even and get a 1:1 payout. Where do they make money? Sponsors, just like the anglers.

I doubt BLT is named BLT without some money from Anheuser–Busch?

In reality I think some of the smaller trails might pay back closer to 80% and still have some sponsor money just to near break even.

If you are talking about bass clubs, they pay out a certain percentage and get membership fees. I have fished clubs that pay anywhere from 65 to 90% back to the anglers for each T. Then the residual goes for prizes like big stringer of the year, heavy fish of the year, Christmas party, memorial tournaments I run a working man's T and we pay back 100% at the end of the night. I also pay to fish as well, trying to win some of the money that way. I have won a few, but not enough to break even as of yet, but hopefully, I will become a better angler and start winning some more. We do not have membership fees, as anyone that wants to fish can. Biggest pot we had was $640 with an optional big bass pot of $160. One guy took home $608 for that T (32 entries X $20 entry fee and optional $5 pot for big bass. We pay 70% for first and 30% for 2nd). Not bad for 4 hours of fishing. Normally we attract much less boats, averaging about 9 fishermen per T (for the most part, but during the summer months, it goes up to about 12 per Friday night T).

Hope this helps. Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

We make per year for the name.

Tourney directors do not make nearly enough to have to deal with the grief/work they put in or up with. If someone is thinking of starting a circuit or club they need to seek a therapist, lol.
Do the math on payout and you'll see what they keep. Media has always been up front with their payout and so have a few of the others.
It's definitely not a get rich quick scheme if your in it for the long run.
