My Humminbird 997 up front with a transducer clamped to the trolling motor now gets a lot of interferance that covers the screen with lines from top to bottom while running the trolling motor. New problem. Works perfect except when receiving interferance while running motor. What caused this after years of no problems? Need a new transducer? Thank you, 361v.

Loose ground on the graph, or loose ground on the tm. Try checking for good connections on everything before replacing expensive parts. Sometimes when the TM motor is starting to wear out, it can cause interference.

I have the same problem with a Minn Kota Maxx 74 and a Lowrance touch 9. I added a ground wire clamped to the head of the T/M and to a ground in the boat and still have interference.

This is where I'm lost. What is the "fix" for a Fortrex that seems to running perfect? Not sure how its grounded but will check. TY, 361v.

Since you have had no problems until recently, the brushes in the motor are probably worn down enough to cause RFI. Fix your motor.

I think most of the Fortrex units have a ground fuse in the head. If the fuse pops you will suddenly have interference. Pull the top off the head unit and check the small blade fuse.

Make an appointment with Nevelle May at Lake Area Marine behind the Minnow Bucket at Lake Fork. 903-393-9500

He will take your motor apart and run a ground wire from the brushes...inside your shaft...and then connect to the ground wire at the plug. He'll also check out your brushes, etc. on the motor. He did mine and it fixed it.

Be sure to call because his hours are very spotty!

Takes about an hour....then go fishing! Perfect day!

If that's too far, call Don Boris at Boris Marine in Fort Worth 817-624-3932

I had all the above done and it did not work. Turned out it was the connection to the battery was dirty.

Dad's been having the same probems as well as the depth reading being sporadic at times.
