I have been wanting to get back on craw and gill patterns both things I need a lot of practice on sat down and sketched a couple ideas out earlier. Picked up a stencil cutter last week that I need to play with and a few different cutting attachments for the dremel as well. Open to suggestions on these sketches!

I'm curious why crawfish patterns are always face forward, when we know that they move tail first?

Because you can't fit there pattern correctly on a Shad style bait by having the face correctly. Imo

Agree that it's more realistic that way, I'm sure it could be done that way given the time spent to design the stencil correctly would actually take 5-6 stencils to do it that way and the lay over on each one would have to be perfect if I have the time this weekend I'll play with it and see what I come up with.

Oh no. I think you'll have to do it freehand. Good luck, it is above my skill level for sure.

No sir it won't be freehand work from me, I do stencils for a reason when you get one you like it's easy to reproduce the pattern over and over. Maybe some other guys can freehand it but I'm not going to attempt it.

I think it would be cool in black and blue instead of reds

I have done blk and blue before for customers and green pumpkin. Will probably do 4 colors when I get a stencil I like. Red/orange, brown/orange, blk/blue, green pumpkin.

Well laid down some bluegill colors on some jerkbaits I like the colors, but my first shot at the stencil was an epic failure the stripe spacing was to far apart. Looked good on the stencil not so much on the bait. Had them spaced at 6mm going to try dropping it down to 3mm apart on the next stencil. Here are the baits without stripes, painting over a semi holographic body and using transparent colors very lightly to keep the holographic pattern visible.

The bluegill is hard to imagine on a long body. How about a bait ball? Very quick edit but how about something like this?
