Hey all, thought I would give jig painting a go.... Had some luck on a few of my jigs but alot of my 1/8 jig heads got a little messed up. I noticed the 1/16th fared much better in the paint process. I headed them all up with a candle, there was some black residue, not sure how to avoid that. When I dipped them they looked good, but after the curing process alot of them were messed up like the one I have taken a picture of below. Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

That black residue is "soot" and not good for paint. Get yourself a different heat source.
Some people use heat guns or an Alcohol burner to heat jigheads. I preffer/use a small propane torch. Odorless and only takes a second or two to heat a head for painting.

The best heater made is only 15 dollars at Barlow's but the thing with any type of heat is hole it back away from the flame and not heat it to fast. Be sure its the same all of the way.

I just ordered one of the alcohol heaters. Thanks for the tips, I have an idea that the soot is what caused the paint to mess up. Possibly my inexperience heating them as well... Will try some more in the enxt week.

I also use an alcohol burner from Barlow's and don't use a candle or anything that is not clean burning.
