I'm going to try to get on some crappie in the creeks, my question is should I be looking for submerged brush or brush off the bank or am I wasting my time on the creeks this time of year? I could really use some help thank you in advance for any tips or advice!!

Look for any structure you find. Jig and cork, jig about 2 feet under
Never a waste of time to fish... Maybe gas is wasted to get there and back

Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

You can catch them off of both but I will tell you that the submerged brush will produce more for you. Be prepared to get skunked a lot in the beginning and once you figure them out it will be the greatest feeling of accomplishment ever!

There are certainly crappie in the creeks now, but not all creeks. Many of the creeks that feed our North/East Texas lakes do have crappie in them this time of year. As stated above, focus on structure, but I'm also catching them on a jig/bobber in a 50 yard stretch of a 3' flat as well.

Just commit a day or 2 to fishing creeks...try several techniques, and you will probably have enough info to figure them out wink

I caught 3 crappie this weekend in a matter of minutes on a straight bank with no structure in the creek. Then didnt catch another fish the rest of the afternoon. Crappie school up together and you can usually slay them when you find them, the trick is finding them. Also when I hammer the fish real fast I think it helps if you think you found a school to take it easy or they'll scatter. Catch 1 fish and wait a minute or two before tossing your jig back down, catching them back to back seems to scatter them out making it harder to keep them biting but thats just me.

Also if the water is cold like it is now the best advice is to keep that jig moving SLOW the cold water slows metabolism and fish move slower so you'll need to move your jig slower. Reel real slow and as the water warms up you can start moving it faster

I have caught a limit in the creeks without waiting 1 or 2 minutes, but it is an interesting concept. Find under water structure like some people have mentioned, fish every side of the structure. I personally hate slip corks but some people love them, I like pear floats with weight. Ohh and I only fish with 10 pound power pro org. moss green. I was losing to many jigs, and I will never go back!
