22awg copper. cat 5e wire works great! home depot or lowes per foot. There are 4 pairs so you get 4X the wire per foot!!

I use 20 gauge wire from any craft store or walmart. Put the skirt on first with a traditional rubber band and then wrap the wire around twice. Then grab the tag ends of the wire with a pair of needle nose pliers and twist it a few times. Not too tight or you'll bust the wire. Then trim it and bend it down towards the rear of the bait. You can do it w/o using the rubber band, but it's much easier with it. I'm not sure if you were asking for all that info.

hmmm

I'm glad I practiced on an old jig. It is an art to apply the wire without breaking strands of the skirt.

I do mine the same way using 20 gauge from hobby lobby with the exception that I tie on the hook side of the bait and push my tag in on that side. The weed guard covers it up nicely when your finished. Also I put my weed guards in last so they are not in the way when wrapping the wire around the jig.

It would be more convenient if the weed guard wasn't there. I'm not building new baits though, just replacing skirts or ties that are worn out.

I got some of those not too long ago from a guy in Idaho... Are you using it on a swim jig, chatterbait, spinnerbait or regular jig?

I use it on spinnerbaits, buzz baits, and chatterbaits. Anything that I'm trying to imitate a shad with.
