Had a good winter sandbass catching day today. JV joined me and we fished from 10 to about 130pm when the wind chased us off lol. We only fished a couple of spots at mouth of coves in 30fow. First cove we found them very congregated, stacked and mostly near or at the bottoms. They were all very bloated 15 to 16 inch fat sandies with one measured 16.5 inches caught by Twin.

We left the fish to scope out other areas but the wind picked up to 25+ mph and did the bull ride in lol. Kept a good cooler of giant magnums for my in laws.

No hybrids today. Winds from the South 12 to 25+ mph. Best depth was 30ft. We spotlocked and moved around the area and spotlocked some more and call them in smile Out of many hundreds of big group we graphed I would say only 5% or so would bite. But that was enough to call a good day of catching about 30 fish smile

Good luck be safe guys! Let me know how yall do, especially on the hibbies grin

Hmmmm...photobucket is down for maintenance. Well post pics later. My phone saved my pics as JPEG. TFF only load JPG and PNG pics. Hey JP, can you tweak to include JPEG as well?? smile

Seems about the same as lewisville, lots of bait lots of marks and a few OF them bite! It was hard staying directly over them with the 80 thrust i pilot due to wind. we noticed that the fish would really only bite when our lines were strait vertical and still, was it the same for yall?. Obviously wind is not good for that lol. What I always find strange is the fish at your lake seem to be 10-15ft up higher in the water column this time of year or at the bottom at a shallower depth. Our fish are at 40 fow in 50 plus fow. we were using chatruess jig heads with silver and black 3-4 inch flukes, Also were able to get some on a 1/4 ounce jig head with a 2 inch creek fluke I use for the spawn lol. What set ups were yall using?

Anyway, if you ever have a spot open I would love to see how yall do it over there.

Nice work indeed! Fishing on a Friday is always the best Idea! (well, until you have to go across the lake like a leaf in the ocean lol).

I only fish on days that end in Y!

Great report Todd and JV! Good to hear ya found some and got off the lake safety, that wind can be a bear! Last weekend was tough for me and the Boyer boys. Found em, but weren't bitting much. I'll catch ya out there some CALM day👍👍👍

Thanks guys. Ben, JV was catching more with the 1 oz jig and a 2 inch crappie jig. We spotlocked most of the time so lighter jigs would work too but they take longer to sink. When we slow drift using the TM pointing into the wind and activate "N" , our lines were about verticle or 10 degrees slanted. IMO the key is to place your lures just slightly above the fish and pray that they'll bite or cuss if they dont lol. JV positions himself on my boat boat so that he can see his lure on the graph in relation to the fish and have quick reflexes lol. There will be more misses for sure. It's deadsticking and you just gotta get out there and practice and practice. To me deadstick is (more) cussing season roflmao

Ya I tend to develop a bad habit of cussing when I fish like this as well lol. I will try that tm trick with the North button

Hope you get better soon, Scotty. I wear a back brace when I fish now. We are getN old? Better fish more while we still can! I wear a ribbon on my wrist so people can tell us apart hehehe.

I heard Lavon dam is still releasing several gates. So the hibbies may be hanging about up north? It's not normal to not catching more hybrids deadsticking. Every year is always something different...and I am always learning. smile

Forgot to mention, Moe's special made for JV some special jig heads, 3/4 oz to 1.5 oz but with shorter hooks. The 2 inch crappie flukes go on them nicely and hubbard fish seem to hook on them, especially the very light winter bites. Hope that will help a few...
