Thinking about taking my son trout fishing for his 13th birthday Sat the 6th. Can anyone tell me if it would be worth the trip, it's almost a 2 hour drive. He loves to fish and I thought something different would be neat.Thanks.

If he like to fish, it is worth the drive just to see the fish displays. The lake has multi species and is a great place to spend the day

Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

Happy Birthday to your son!! My daughter turns 13 on February 6th also!! I took my 2 boys aged 5 to the fish hatchery and they had a blast. Caught some big perch and nice catfish. Your 13 year old will love it. Then go in to town and eat. We made a day of it.

Went with my 4 years old daughter two weeks ago. She caught them as fast as I could get out of her way. Piece of advice... use Berkley Power eggs in pink. Fish them about 24 inches under a cork and fish closer to the bank than out in the middle.

Thanks 79scooter that's very helpful. My son is really excited about this trip. Did y'all use the fishing equipment provided by the park or take your own? Where can I get the power eggs?

I took her Barbie Pole for her, and I brought one of my crappie rods. I didn't get to fish much as she was keeping me busy. The eggs are at Cables and Basspro... academy and walmart don't carry them. Worst case scenario, use the dough bait, and make it about the size of a English pea. Stick to bright colors Pink, Orange. They have all the equipment you will need if you don't feel like taking your own. Cover up most of the hook by using 2-3 eggs/dough balls. Use a #6 or 8 Aberdeen hook, mash the barb.. they don't allow barbs

you can keep 5 per person for $5/person. We kept 5 just because my daughter wanted to keep some. Kept the one that swallowed the hook the worst.

Pan fried over an open fire w/potatoes. Olive oil, real butter, and a nice sunset next to the water smile
