I saw about 6 years ago a guy going back home with a full stringer on a kayak. Didn't ask him how the bank fishermen treated him but if the weather allows I would like to go. Are bank fishermen 'Meaner' than they used to be or am I concerned over nothing. I don't handle confrontation too well but I try to respect others fishing as much as possible by moving out of the way quickly. Anything I should be concerned with?

I wouldn't hesitate to use my kayak. They don't own the river. They will surely be jealous of you being able to cover ground while they are stuck on the bank. No reason to get into a confrontation.

I've never had any problems. Must people think our rigs are cool and like to check them out but when passing people I'll hug the opposite bank. If you're polite then most people will be back but there is no need for any confrontation over passing bank fisherman. Navigable water ways are public property and they can not block passage. Always keep and Game Wardens # handy and let him confront them. You can get your counties GW cell # off the TPWD web site.

Agree with Todd. Kayaks on a nuisance level to bank anglers are
about a 2. Duck boats with mud motors/beaver tails rate a 10.
He's also right about them thinking that kayaks are cool.
I've had quite a few conversations about fishing out of
a kayak. When passing bank fisherman I slow down and point
where I want to go. Many times, I'll go along the same bank
that they are fishing from as to not paddle thru "Their Spot".
The Kayak launching area is on the North side of
Hwy 31 & Neches River.

All I can say about kayak folks is.. A lot of the times they anchor right on top of active fish where everyone from the bank are casting and get mad when lead starts flying at them! So yea your right it is public, not only for yakers but bank folks to! Below lavon yakers sometimes are careless

i live and fish on the Neches near Lufkin, i bank fish alot around the 94 Bridge and highway 7 Bridge, the kayakers and canoesers have all been friendly a barrel of laughs. matter of fact last year i was battling a gar one kayaker came ashore and used my action cam to video me fighting the fish. at that point i wanted a kayak now i have one. i believe what most bank people get upset abpout is when motorized boats come 90 to nothing create a massive wake and dont even slow down.
