I'm sure this has been talked about before but where does the tpwd site get its fishing report info from? I went to granbury last weekend with the water temp 45-46 all day everywhere I went. Yet the report showed it to be 58-61. Anyone have any insight on this?

They "pencil whip" that [censored] before they get off for the weekend.

TPWD will tell you to check the accuracy of the water temperature sensor on your boat. It couldn't be them posting the same report from October?

It is always complete luck if you happen to view the "reports" right after they update them, which is very seldom. Always been that way. No dig, just sayn.

Send them your info...I'm sure they would welcome the updated information. They rely on anglers for the reports and if nobody sends info they leave what they have. It's not like they staff a full time angler to fish each lake for every species each week.

They are updated weekly. Other than water temps not much changes at times in winter on some lakes. They are not comprehensive by any means but they are better than nothing.

They probably took the temp from inside their truck. LOL Most likely the air temp not the water temp. IMO

Most lakes have a guide(s)-that would seem to be a great place to get up to date info.

Or they asked a guy at the ramp. That tells them what their buddy told him a few weeks ago.

If they're like Arkansas Game and Fish in this matter, which I imagine is the case, they get those reports from volunteers who live around the lake and they send out an email each week asking for updated information. If the volunteer for Lake X hasn't been out that week or doesn't have time to sit down and update the report, then they go with whatever was sent in last.

I am the one writing the reports for the Arkansas River near where I live and there are times, like right now, when I haven't been in the water for months so the "latest" information is months old for that location.

That is where the information comes from. They are updated weekly for sure.

They are updated weekly. Surface temp can change dramatically very quickly this time of year. I just got the email today for their weekly reports. They say water temp is 46-50, so pretty close to what you were saying. Find some deeper fish and those sudden water temp changes won't affect them as much.

TPWD fishing reports are extremely helpful compared to the TFF Sam Rayburn reports.
Actually both are worthless - just sayin...

My dad used to provide the info for the one on Amistad about 30 years ago. It wasn't that he knew what he was talking about--he was just willing.

Black bass good on pumkinseed and red shad worms in 15-25 foot. Rinse and repeat.
