Was planning on taking the big boat (22' angler grande bay) out of packery for some state water snapper in January. Question is how is the snapper fishing around the wrecks and rigs this time of year? If the weather doesn't cooperate the we will stay inshore and try our luck with some trout and reds.

You should be able to catch them, hard to find keepers unless you know where structure is that not many people fish.

Structure is the key to catching fish right now whether wade fishing, bay fishing or offshore fishing.

Try looking on the 2 cool fishing site. They have lots of saltwater threads and someone may know over there.

With the current regs & the recent cold weather, RIGHT NOW is the time to find big state snappers
in close. find the smaller, less obtrusive numbers for better success.

unfortunately, yesterday & today would have been perfect, but the high is moving off & the wind is coming back already.
heard some stories of 20#+ fish as close as 3 miles off further south. I think there's a new wreck off
Port Isabel (?)
saw a 16" lane snapper caught off the port a s. jetty today........

Careful. Don't get caught offshore when a cold front comes. Long scary ride home.
