Ah! Glad to get the correction on what I was seeing.

I knew there were two lakes, wasn't sure that the little sign off of 67 wasn't referring to the one I had just passed over.

I looked at it on Google Earth and Lake Cleburne looks like a really nice little lake! I can't believe I haven't given it a go yet.

I do love that clear and clean water on Wheeler, so it has lured me out there a lot.

Hey brad I think you still may be a little confused. The Lake were talking about is Cedar Lake Which is inside Cleaburn State Park. The lake you're seeing on 67 is Lake Pat Cleburn.Google Earth Cedar Lake or Cleaburn State Park. That will show you the lake.

Hobie14,

I found the proper lake, the 107 acre one in the Cleburne State Park, but thought I saw it was just called Cleburne Lake.

I see now that it is referred to as Cedar Lake. That makes more sense than both a Pat Cleburne Reservoir and a Cleburne Lake, which would be confusing.

Hey! I wonder about its configuration. Does it happen to sit down a bit or have a heavy perimeter of trees? I ask because I wonder about how windy it might be. As much as I like Wheeler for kayaking, it is really negatively affected by strong winds.

Would this be a good lake for windy days? Its size alone would help, of course, since there'd be less room for waves to build up over a larger area of water surface.

I was planning to bank fish tomorrow, but . . . hmm???

Brad

It does sit down a good bit and the banks are lined with cedar and oaks we were out there last sunday was pretty windy but the lake looked fine no white caps or anything. I'll be out there in the morning between 8 and 9 to see if I catch some crappie or what ever is biting come on out!!

Barry,

I'll catch up with several of you guys really soon. We are moving later in the spring to Lake Athens and we had 6 realtors and clients show up today. I was never able to go home to rig up for tomorrow so I'll run on down and meet my friends for some bank fishing on Wheeler.

Give us a report! I look forward to dropping my kayak in and checking out this lake!

Brad

I dropped by Cedar Lake on the way home after bank fishing and leaving Wheeler Branch (Whew! That was a tough bite) and I really liked what I saw. I met several kayakers down there, fishermen too. Barry had just finished helping Steve load his kayak and I had a chance to see his PA 14 up close. And, Slingbait, I think that is his TFF moniker, was there with a tie-died Jackson and his purple Native.

I believe when I looked it up, it indicated that Cedar Lake is 107 acres and it looked like a nice lake to hit on even a windy day based on how it sits down a bit from its tree-lined banks with trails running around a lot of what I could see. So, one could likely find some fairly still water.

I am less sure about trailering a kayak down there, that there are sufficient spaces for a crowd. I think I'll call and ask them about it. The launching area is very nice but not all that large. I wish I had paid more attention to the actual number of parking spots to accomodate vehicles pulling trailers.

It's a whole lot closer to me than Wheeler Branch, not far off the termination of Chisholm Trail. I'd like to give this one a go.

Brad

Barry/Slingbait,

I checked the weather forecast for the Cleburne area this coming Sunday and it shows temps in the high 30s to mid 40s as the day progresses. Possible light rain Saturday into Sunday morning. And, the wind appears light in the morning and only up to 9 mph so not bad.

Just a guess on the bass that they are in the transition phase and beginning to move out of deeper areas, get a big more active with longer and warmer days . . . as they head in to shallower water to spawn soon.

I think I'd likely drop shot different depths to see if I could hang something under their chins, fish super slow.

Wheeler Branch, of course, would be lovely . . . always is. On sunny days you can see down 10 or more feet.

Good seeing and meeting you guys the other day!

Brad
