Im heading out to Lake Buchanan this Saturday in search of some whites. Have they started staging near the mouth of the Colorado yet? I've heard a few males have been up river, but wondering if there is a good spot to locate them pre-spawn? Anybody been out there is the past couple weeks?

This was posted on 1/22 in the Colorado Bend State Park thread by BrandoA.

Lots of whites being caught up around Garrett and Highline. Looks like they are staging getting ready to move.

Went out on Saturday. Fished Garrett Island and Highline with no success. I could not locate the fish. Went up river. Fished multiple spots along the way to the State Park with zero success. Once we got to the State Park, we caught four males within a 10 minute span, and then nothing. All in all, we were on the water for about 8 hours and only boated 4 fish. Tried every color and every lure. Only thing that worked was a grey crappie jig. But it sure was nice being on the water!!! Very nice seeing so much water in the river!

I am going to be out there sometime this weekend if nothing changes. Won't be chasing White but hybrids and stripers.

How deep were you fishing and what techniques? My guess is you weren't deep enough. I have been mostly catching whites, stripers, hybrids in 25-40 ft, some places on the bottom, others suspended over deeper water. Using slabs, swimbaits, or deadsticking. But I also haven't been out since the warming trend.

We fished 15' or less. I tried to graph fish in deeper water but couldn't find them. I'm not very experienced with deep water fishing. I like fishing shorelines, rocks, and rivers. I hope to figure out the deep stuff someday!

I heard from a local guide they have been catching them in 24 foot of water on humps on the north end of the lake and by rocky point.

God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” Genesis 1:28

This is the deepest the river has been in many years. One year I went up river from Buchanan and the water over the sandbar was a little over 12 inches. Still made it through as long as I stayed on plane. Currently the water is 6 feet at the shallowest. The only concern currently is all of the logs and tress in the water. Trying to find the river channel can be a little tricky, but not dangerous. Once you get into the actual river and off the lake, the water is averaging 10 feet in the middle.

We had a pretty good day yesterday. Got on the water at 9:30 and fished till 1. Caught a bunch of hybrids and stripers. Probably 25 keeper fish. Caught a few magnum whites as well. Majority of the fish caught in 40ft of water on the south end of the lake. Only saw one other boat fishing
