I am going to be escaping the bitter north winds of Minnesota and coming south to camp on South Padre for a few weeks in Feb. I have fished there once before several years ago and fished from shore. What bites best at that time of year? I remember catching whiting in the surf but that was about all I caught.

On the bay side of the island there are more shallow grass flats then a man could fish in a life time.
The flats have shallow sand pockets that can be waded. fish a top water around the grass and pockets
at first light even on cool mornings then move shallower as the day warms. Top water bait work best
as say in three foot of water the grass well be about a foot are so deep so you will have about two foot of

Red fish, trout, and if you get there soon, you still might have a shot at a snook.. go with a Guide named Capt Andy Mariscos.

Potholes, mud and grass flats, etc. like above find the structure and either kayak or get yourself a pair of waders and get in there.

The kayak would probably give you the most accessibility.. but combining it with wading is a great option as well.

Your welcome. I did some hunting this year as well. What's the snook doing right now, I heard you, FishHide, and MacJank are hitting it up or did.

This time of year if the tide is moving out they will eat. Yep They are coming down I'm going to try to get them on a few one day I think. Then I think they want to make they ride up to baffin. Its about a hour run.

Running to Baffin from Port Isabel???? That's a hike for sure.
