What is considered a high amount of hours for electronics? I have a graph for sale right now, and everyone that PMs me ask for hours. It has 921 hours on it. When I go fishing, it's usually 10+ hour days. It adds up quick. How many hours are modern electronics good for?

Wow. Tell em who cares. It works. Buy it!
I have an Alpine CD player I use in my shop. It's connected to a 12 volt power supply. It was purchases new by me in 1988. I use it almost every day for several hours a day. I'd guess 28 years is good so far. I'd guess it has around 80k hours. Lol.
What is it about anglers and hours on their gear? BTW. My 99 Mercury on my boat is used 4+ times a week. Year round. Probably has thousands of hours. And only a dozen impellers and two starters. And about 20'lower unit oil changes.
How old a piece is usually only determines features available. Or current technology that it might lack. How well it is maintained means far more. Think about it. If it has lots of "hours", and maintained well, it's probably a good unit.

My "new" Helix 7's have close to the hours of what you are selling. Haha. 700+. They run all day when the boat is out. They have no moving parts. They don't wear out. Jeez. HAHAHAHA

I didn't even know there was a way to tell how many hours it had been on.

You should post the names of who is asking these questions so we can all put them on iggy when we sell stuff. You should not even respond to stupid questions like that.

Answer them back...how many hours do you have on your computer or TV? See if they can tell you. Like everyone said, what does it matter and how would it even be possible to tell without a built in meter.

People always ask that. For electronics, it isn't the total hours that are harmful, what kills electronics is turning the unit on and off. The components heat up then cool this stretching and shrinking. I run mine 8 hours at a time so it adds up quickly.
The avg that I see are usually around 500. I wouldn't have an issue with 900 hours. I've answered the question just as I did above and they have bought the unit. If they are really concerned, there are still new ones in the store for sale
And yes, atleast on humminbird, you can check the hours.

I would think more than the number of hours or the number of on/offs would be the condition of it's environment. I know the one on the bow of our boat takes a beating. The one at the console, not so much. But eventually the ram mount at the bow with allow it to slide in rough water and it ends up banging a little (or a lot) on the TM or the TM pedal.
I'm on a first name basis with the warranty department at Lowrance.

For low-voltage low-power devices such as discussed here, I don't prescribe to on/off cycles contributing to MTBF (Mean Time Between Failure) from heating/cooling cycles or the electronic components themselves. Rather, a big culprit is the physical SWITCH (aka "button") that activates the unit. Other than that, I believe the thing that affects life the most is excessive heat. If the internal temperatures don't exceed component max. parameters, I'd expect product life to be very long. These comments don't include Willie strapping them to the bow of a boat like in a Timex watch commercial from the 1960s.
