Too bad, Sounds like a couple deals flaked on him at the last moment.

I don't know the man but his decision tells me all I need to know. Very thoughtful decision on his part.

I'm confused why this is even a topic on here? The man made a decision he felt was best for him and his family. End of story.

Agreed that it is not a topic for debate for armchair quarterbacks. It is his decision but since I have "the right to remain silent without the ability"... kudos for good planning and decision making. We have seen others in this industry chase their dream by putting all their "eggs in one basket" and if/when it doesn't all pan out they are stuck without any "Plan B". From a fellow firefighter: kudos on weighing ALL aspects and making a very responsible and educated plan. GOOD LUCK! Hope you are able to enjoy the best of both worlds!(Just an opinion)

The only problem I see with his decision is now we local (DFW) anglers have to step up our game and compete against him again. Smart move it will all pay off, good luck James.

As a former firefighter I understand his decision at this point in his life. He's got too much invested in his career to leave now. He will still be young enough to chase it when he retires & will NOT regret his decision to spend the time with raising his family. Kudos to a man that WILL be successful in anything he does. He's a top notch person. I'll wish him luck & ALWAYS be a fan.

My bass club was affiliated with TBF/FLW for years. The reason I didn't fish the individual state tournament and try to pursue the "Living the Dream" pathway is the very thing that is putting up a roadblock for James. I knew I didn't want to give up my job and my pension, plus there is no way I could afford to pay my own way in order to give it a real shot even if I qualified.

His explanation seems perfectly rational.

I have spoken with James about this personally. I assure you that he has thought this through for a while and I have no doubt that he is making the best decision for himself and his family. He has learned a lot about what it takes to compete and I know that he has a plan laid out to return when the time is right. Good Luck James and kudos for making a wise decision.

Thanks guys for the comments! Lol I understand my decision was not a popular in some circles of people, or one that every guy would make. It was however the right one for my family at this time. After back to back Forrest Wood Cups I was shocked that I could not pick up anything in the way of sponsorship. I have a year to work on that so if any of you have any ideas on that I'm all ears. Thanks for the kind words & I will see many of y'all are town.
