Guys I wanted to get everyone opinion on where I should fish. I am taking a family trip in june to St. Myers and I will have the chance to fish a day or 2. I have had the pleasure of fishing OKEECHOBEE and caught a 10.2 and a 9 in the same trip. I could go back to OKEECHOBEE or try another spot. Do you guys have any insight on a lake or a guide that would compare to OKEECHOBEE. Thanks for all the feedback everyone

Aaron, I lived there 19 years. From Ft. Meyers, there aren't a lot of good options unless you are willing to drive quite a distance. June is into the full summer pattern and will have been hot for a while. I keep in touch with buddies there and will be returning this spring to fish. In my opinion, the special attractiveness of Kissimmee and Toho will be long gone by June and not a lot different than the Big O at that point.

Catch rates have been at or near an all-time high on the Big O in the past 3 years if I remember correctly. Recent tourney results were affected by weather far more than lake quality, so don't discount the Big O.

Be hard not to go back to OKEECHOBEE with the same guide if I were you. That's a good day in my book.

Just returned from the FLW Costa at Okeechobee and as said the weather really hurt this tournament for big stringers. But Okeechobee is still one of the best lakes in the nation! Some big fish are being caught at Rodman right now but cant say what June will bring. Another super guide at Okeechobee is Tom Mann Jr. What is your goal for Florida lakes...DD fish or quantity?

Sorry Skeeter my goal is DD fish. We live here in the great state of Texas and I am lucky enough to have awesome lakes with in hours of me. So bigger is better for me.

Lake Toho is, and has been for some years, one of the top destinations if DD is your goal. If you tell a guide there you want to do that, they are going to want to soak large wild shiners to accomplish the task. Now is the time to be trophy bass fishing in Florida; the time for numbers of fish comes a bit later typically.

Rodman is being drawn down to demuck and restore, then restock. That drawdown has begun to concentrate fish, but I'm hearing it has not been the field day some had hoped for. Another favorite lake of mine is Kissimmee. Most convenient accommodations near all the lakes began to fill up in October (when I booked mine).

As you go south from the Toho area, Florida's weather actually becomes less conducive to DD bass. The largest don't tolerate heat as well, so the genetics have favored toning down size to less than DD. The southern 1/3 of the state does provide some impressive catch rates and quality. This info is per state P&W biologists.

What about the Cape Coral Canals? I used to fish those all the time.. I think they may even have Peacocks now.. Look for guides on the internet.. That is close to Ft Myers

I fished those numerous times in their heyday - when the "ramp" was still a mud bank. Getting out typically required 4WD, and sometimes a pull if there were a lot of boats that turned the slope into mud. A number of years ago, a hurricane passed over the area, ripped all the vegetation loose and muddied the water. The eco-system crashed, and it is still recovering to this day. The other well-known lakes are far superior at this point. Stick-Marsh and Farm 13 are NOTHING like they used to be, so you better check current status closely before you put that one on your list.
