Went to Fairfield this weekend and the third time I pulled my trolling motor up, the top exploded. (Picture below)I just bought the boat and it had been repaired by the previous owner So now I am looking to buy a new one. The boat is a 2000 18' skeeter. Any trolling motor suggestions either for or against. I am trying to stay around $1000. Also are the plugs universal or am I going to have someone install it?

Take it and have a new head put on it. Fix it if it was working

Trolling motors do not come with a plug - just bare wires. The plug you have disassembles easily with a small flat-blade screwdriver normally. It appears to be a Marinco twist-lock. Unplug it (twist left, then pull out). Turn the prongs toward you, and you will see two recessed screws. Loosen those, as well as the two clamping the wire at the top of the plug. BE SURE to mark carefully where the red and black wires go. Do not get them backwards when installing the new motor. Anyone with a bit of electrical knowledge can help with this 5-10 minute task.
That bow panel will have to come out to get to nuts under the deck to unbolt the old TM. That part isn't included in the 5-10 min.
Those broken parts can be replaced. Do you just want a new one?

I was unaware that a new head could be put on one. It's a 65lb thrust Minn Kota. It worked fine until it came apart. That's awesome. Where can I take it in the Dallas Area. Information like this is exactly why I love this site. Thanks guys
