I am looking to buy a new Stradic 2500 and outside of a few ounces weight difference I can't tell any diference in these two reels. Looking for why one might be "better" than the other.

1.5 ounces is a pretty significant weight difference. Stradic FK has an aluminum body with a plastic rotor, the CI4+ uses the CI4+ material for both the body and rotor. Both reels use the same drag material and both have Hagane cold forged drive gears. If weight is important to you, go with the CI4+. If not, go with the FK. I have both and like them both a lot.

That was sort of my thinking...we are comparing Shimano to Shimano so both are quality reels I was just curious if the CI4+ offered any substantial difference outside of weight. I mean if I am going to catch three more fish with the CI4+ then I will definitely get that one. ;-)

I mean you might be less tired from fishing with it and be able to make 3 more casts, you never know haha. I always err on the side of lightweight with these little green fish, just for comfort sake. Never met a bass I couldn't handle with a Stradic CI4+. I caught an 11-07 with one a few years back.

I am probably just being a tightwad saving 20 bucks....You make a valid point though because I do throw finesse tackle a lot so weight at the end of the day is probably worth a few more dollars.

T54's responses are spot on, and he owns both of them, so his advice should be over-weighted.

The Ci4+ material is so light and so strong, I just love my 2500. I can't make the comparison, though, not owning an FK.

The only other issue I can think of that T54 might respond to is whether the FK is as water/dirt proof as the Ci4+. Nothing gets inside the Ci4+ making it so very maintenance-free. It feels like it is almost hermetically sealed.

Aaron Martens talks about weight and spinning tackle, that each extra ounce puts pressure over a long day on shoulders and other supports. How? I don't know as I am almost unaware of holding anything of weight . . . at all. But, the lighter the better generally speaking.

I'm not sure exactly what the differences were with the first version CI4 but all the reviews I read basically called it junk. Supposedly they worked out all the kinks with the plus model.

The rotor on the FK is not plastic it's a graphite composite. The FK is completely waterproof. Part of the way they accomplished this was by removing the external oil port and lever to trip for back reeling. The anti-reverse is incredible. I have the 2500 FK and it is the smoothest most solid feeling spinning reel I have ever used. Part of this is because of the cold forged drive gear which I think is probably where the weight difference over the CI4+ comes from. Your best bet would be to go to a tackle shop and put them both in your hand before you decide....both great reels.

Thanks for the input. I have felt both and to me the FK felt smoother, just slightly more heavy than the Ci4+. Sounds like to me that they basically offer the same features(drag, gears, waterproof etc) the Ci4+ material is just lighter
