I went to change the oil in my Mercury 60 HP 4 stroke and I cannot get the filter off. Last year I bought a oil filter wrench (size F) that fits on a socket wrench. It worked just fine. This year I used the same darn wrench and it just slips on the filter. I tried to get adjustable belt type wrench and it impossible to get to because of the close quarters. Any suggestions?

I solved my own problem. I put electrical tape around the filter and it provided enough friction for the socket filter wrench to grip.

Have had to drive a screw driver into a lot of filters to break them loose.

Did you buy the correct oil filter last year?

I've learned not to tighten oil filters as much as I used to, after resorting to the screwdriver method too many times!

Grew up on Tawakoni and Texoma before hybrids and stripers existed on either.

Remember to put fresh oil on the gasket, a dry gasket will do that every time.
