one of my new year's resolutions is to learn how to fish the shaky head setup. my question is about what worm to use. seems like one that floats would be more appealing for this presentation. if so, what worms would do that? if floating is not important, do you like a straight worm or one with several arms and legs?

Zoom trick worm and you will be fine 1/8 or 1/4oz shaky head!

I like a zoom mag shakey head, or a kicker hightail worm. Either a sk fb head, or Davis baits shakey head. Good luck!

In colder water, it's hard to beat a Zoom finesse worm. It is a 4 3/4" straight tail worm that sort of glides down on the fall with a light jighead - it does not float. In warm to very warm water, my favorite worms are Roboworms, which float; Kicker Fish Hole Shot High Tail worm (the tail floats up); and a Lake Fork Tackle Hyper Worm in the 4" size (does not float). On all of these I like a 1/8 oz. Owner jighead with the 4/0 hook and a screw spring with a centering pin. I don't shake the worm in place a whole lot, I mostly hop it slowly along the bottom.I use spinning gear with 30# braid and a copolymer leader. Smaller size craws and Beaver style baits also work well on shaky heads.

In memory of my childhood friend Dan Sterling, who taught me at an early age how to catch bream with a hand-line, and who unknowingly hooked me on fishing for life.

Grandebass Airtails are my favorite shakey head and C-rig bait. The tail really stands up on a shakey head. They are pretty bulky for a finesse presentation so if I'm trying to downsize I simply use a Grandebass rattlesnake or baby rattlesnake.

Don't use a grandebass rattle snake, or the air tail. LOL

I've been using Bass Assassin Tap Out worms lately. Forgot I bought some a while back on clearance from academy. The tail floats and works great. Usually use Super T Macs.

Strike King Super Finesse Worm. They are not plastic, they are made of some kind of rubber and they float. They are hard to put on the "cork screw" type of shaky head because of what they are made of. They are very durable, you can use the same one all day. However, they will melt (get all gooey) if you leave them in the boat in the Texas heat all week. They work great on a C-rig or weightless also. The "purple haze" has put many fish in my boat.

The Grande Bass air tail or snake-o works pretty good also.

These are my favorites, but any type of plastic worm will work. I usually have a shaky head on one of my lines at all times--it is one of my favorite ways to fish.

Find a shakey head that stands really well. I like the mega strike, wide gap hook and solid base. Think outside the box. It doesn't always have to be a worm
