Headed to RC this weekend and going after a few crappie. Im pretty familiar with the lake but ive never gone after crappie. Not looking for anyones honey hole but a few suggestions on where to catch a few would be greatly appreciated.

I would look on deep brushpiles or maybe even the bridge. I'm not real familiar with the lake but that would be where I would start. It also might be worth it to look down by the dam. The 25-35' range would be where I would start.

Caught this one Friday pre-fishing for the catfish tourny on a 6" piece of gizzard shad. Had a ton of fish on the graph and had around a dozen bites from that one spot but the little guys couldn't get the bait in there mouth. Timber on a ledge in 20'-25' is where we marked a ton of crappie.

I'd echo what dwmoore said and try another lake. Only bite that has been consistently good on RC late Fall and Winter has been the Catfish. Danny King's Punch Bait on a #4 treble hook over baited holes has been our ticket to limits of Channels and a few BIG BLUES the past couple of months. Crappie bite will be good in March/April but not the Winter on RC.

Good Luck!

Been fishing RC since it was impounded. You'd have much better luck with other lakes in the winter. Palestine, Twok, heck even CC would be better than RC. Just a really tough lake in the winter.
If you dare, they can be found on deep ledges on the eastern half of the Richland arm and up near the damn. There just aren't many days the wind will let you fish that pattern.
