How have you liked it?

Has it lived up to mpg claims?

Any major issues?

My commuter car got totaled and I'm thinking I want a truck again and this should fill the bill nicely between good mpg's and capability.

Thanks.

I thought about buying one but I could get a 3/4 with Cummins in it with same options cheaper. My neighbor works at a CDJR dealer and comes over to see what I'm working on since I have a shop at my house and work diesel & autos, & to get in my beer fridge. He said there good trucks but he doesn't like the parts where the mant. Stuff is made in China along with other stuff on the truck. He told me problems he sees is people trying to use them like a 1ton. Besides that just the typical TSB updates on them. Few transmission failures here & there. Few pumps or injectors, every once in a while they get one that must have been built on a Monday but after they get the kinks out they don't come back. Besides that there good trucks. If I didn't decide to fix my old truck and give daughter more college money I really would have bought one.

ram1500diesel.com is a good place to look.
If you get one get the 44-45 4x4 if you want all wheel drive. There is a lighter version that only engages when the rear wheels slip that several owners hate. Its the 44-44 transmission.
Most people think the air suspension is worth it.

My reasoning for buying the eco is hi 20's mpg. It should be about a 50%+ improvement over a 3/4 ton. I don't need a 3/4 ton, heaviest thing I would tow with it would be 6-8 k lbs and that would be a rare occasion, less than once a year if at all. Mostly a 16' low boy or boat.

Im not looking for a lariat and leather, I want crew cab 4x4 and the ecodiesel have found several new ones on lots in my area with sticker at 36K.

Thanks for the link Allison, will check it out.

I don't drive like the normal American I don't have a need for speed. I drive 60 to and fro work with minimal traffic. I get the hwy rated numbers out of most vehicles I have ever owned in mixed driving. If its rated for 27 hwy I expect to get that in moderate mixed driving.

I had no trouble getting 18-19 out of my 5.3 either and I get better than the hwy rated out of my last car in mixed driving.

If I buy one I will definitely report, but im not sure. The wife wants something new and bigger, I want to save my cash and by an investment property. We will either be getting a couple year old lower mileage camry sedan my vote or a crew cab short box 4x4 ecodiesel wifes vote.

After looking at that forum it seems they definitely have a following, lots of folks out there pushing them harder than I ever would on the towing end of things.

Passing or mountains may be a different story but I think on fairly flat roads or rolling hills, they'd hold their own with any half ton.

There you go. Just proves one size does not fit all. My truck always seems to pull hard towards the North.

There are several folks on the forum Allison1 provided the link for towing 30 foot TT's through the mountains with no issues, they did say they dropped to 55 mph up steep hills etc. Seems fine to me like I said im not trying to buy the most towing capable 1/2 ton I can. I want the best fuel economy, which limits it to two choices, the ecodiesel or ford 2.7 ecoboost. I haven't priced the 2.7 yet although even though it is rated a little less on mpg when you take into account def, oil changes, fuel filters etc. im sure it comes out cheaper.

That 2.7 is a lot of performance out of a small package, im just not sure I trust it enough to hold up.

Guess there just must not be many of them on the road... nobody with real world experience yet.

Briefly looked at 2.7 eco. In crew cab short bed 2wd its rated at 19 city 26 hwy. Change that to 4wd and its 18 city and 23 hwy... seems like small loads make fuel mileage plummet. THink its off the list so either car or Ecodiesel.

I have one 2.7L crew in my fleet, nicely equipped XLT. We got it for about $28.5k from Silsbee Ford. MSRP was $39k. Ridden in it, but I haven't gotten to drive it yet. Couldn't say on the mpgs. Our facilities guy loves it.
