No inserts and no glass beads all you need to know Funny you say that. I have lots of luck with glass beads and tungsten weights, specifically in muddy or stained water.

Glass beads make lots of noise with tungsten weights but one day you will set the hook and your line will break just like someone cut it with scissors. Tungsten is so hard, it will shatter the glass bead and cut your line in the process. Watched it happen twice on a bedding fish. The first time I thought it was a fluke. The second time I got half the glass bead back still on my line.

Reins TG Heavy Weight Tungsten More often than not, this is the tungsten weight that I reach for; it has an insert. I do quite a bit of flippin' and I haven't really noticed the difference in line breakage with weights that do/don't have inserts. I just recommend that you check your line often; you need to do that anyway when you're flippin'. I use a 1/2oz weight 85% of the time, and Reins Tungsten is the best if you ask me. Tungsten is harder than brass or lead, therefore the paint chips easily on tungsten. I HATE THAT! I feel like the silver shimmer of the natural tungsten underneath the paint is unappealing. With Reins, that doesn't happen. They use a coating process that colors the weight but not by using paint. They're super sensitive as well. Reins has figured the tungsten deal out. Eco Pro Tungsten Eco Pro is the only tungsten that I use without an insert. I really just fall back on Eco Pro when I run out of Reins. They're great weights, the paint just chips fairly easily. The chipping paint is just a personal pet peeve of mine. I don't think that it gives you more bites nor does it hurt your bites. They're really sensitive weights as well.

Picasso tungsten has a polished bore and paint doesn't chip.

Ken is right, some day you will have the glass bead break and it will cut your line.

OK, won't the insert keep the line from fraying?

OK, won't the insert keep the line from fraying? Several companies are now making tungsten weights that do not need inserts. See above some that have been mentioned.
