Hey Y'all!

I'm back for a bit! Lots of traveling between CC and Dallas. The drive is just second nature now. All the road time aside I still find time to hit the water!

At the end of last year I got to hit Hubbard with Adrian. Never been there before but the bite was going offfff! We landed a good number of magnum sandies including a personal best 16.5" sandy.

Eventually the bite died down so I went exploring. I started bouncing a crankbait off of some shallow rocks and lost a big hybrid right away. Finally landed a Nice 22.5" breaking my PB by a half inch. Switched it up to a small chrome rattletrap and got slammed by another new PB 24.5". The trip was a blast and thanks to Adrian from showing me around.

I made my trip back down just in time to join my Dad on a hunt. The king ranch has looked awesome this year with all the rain we got in the spring. LOTS of green around. I started the morning dropping a nice nilgai cow. With some meat in the freezer we went on the look for our buck. It was still early in the season so we let lots of nice deer in the 150' -170' class range walk by. Numerous nilgai wondering around, try spotting the one in the pic. Not imagine spotting it from 200yards out. Welcome to nilgai hunting. You almost always have a long running shot on them. Found one little awkward deer still in velvet.

I called up MECE and we set up some trips last week. The front was on its way so I knew trout would be huuuungry. The trip started out great with GLASSY water. The fog was a little off putting with boats cruising around but everyone played nice including the trout.

I started out throwing small orange paddle tails but it was dink city. A mirrolure would get hit but no commits so you had to really be paying attention to set a hook in them. I switched it up to a more life like color lure and started pulling in chunkier keepers. Even the reds came out to play.

I hit it the next day with company and the bite was even better. NO matter what you threw or how big it was you would catch a trout. It was annoyingly good. You couldn't fish for anything else without a trout finding a lure. Between the 2 days I caught well over 200+ trout in the slot.

The front hit and chilled everything down. I decided to venture on down to some "old" honey holes. Fished in deeper waters and found a few trout. Most of the morning they stayed glued to to bottom bu around 10AM the sun warmed it up a bit and they started eating. Big fish was a 24"+ with several others in the 20" range.

Got back on the water saturday morning and it was the same story. Lots of trout pre-front and the redfish hole was holding 7 chunky pumpkins for me to fight. That wind reallllly started ripping from the west around 11:30. Glad I was close to the launch by then.

I tried it again sunday afternoon right after the front hit. It was relatively slow to start. I pulled a few from some potholes I know of. They were trying to warm up a bit. 4:30 rolled around and I found the bite drifting 3'-4' of water over grass. Landed nearly 30 slot trout before I got off the water around 5:30.

Fishing has been fantastic and its almost time for my Baffin shenanigans to start up again.

Till Next Time
Life is good
