I had a gift card and went to purchase an orra winch yesterday. The employee at the counter said I have something better you haven't seen yet. I said okay and he handed me this reel from behind the counter. It suppose to be brand new and they have a wide selection from 5.2-8.1 gear ratio the cranking reel feels great so I bought it, just didn't know if anyone else had a chance to use one yet. I will be testing it out in a few days and till give a report back about how it does.

Not to derail thread- but, have a question about parts/ repair for BPS (or Cabelas, Academy, etc.) reels.
What happens when you need to repair / replace parts? Is there somewhere that you can get replacements parts, or, do these share similar specs/ part designs as other mfg reels (ie- if you have to replace a bearing, you can match by size, etc. for different mfg/ vendors)?

Guess the salesperson met their quota. I always take a second look when someone is pushing a store brand as the next best kept secret.

I had bought a Pro Qualifier once and the drag went bad after one trip. Returned it and reel counter told me I would be better off with the Abu. Ever since I haven't given BPS reels a second look. Last time I was there they were pushing the Lew's.

Well guess I got the wool pulled over my eyes and should have just gone with a reel from a different company. Considering the reel wasn't even out on display yet, I assumed he was trying to give me another option in my price range. I personally have used several bps reels and have never had a issue with any of them. I'm replacing a bps bionic blade that is probably 7-8 years old and wasn't designed for throwing a big crankbait. It has held up well imo just time to retire it.

I worked in the fishing department at Bass Pro for a while and I can tell you that you are not pushed to purchase any particular rod, reel or bait for any reason. I had been fishing for over 25 years and if someone asked me my personal opinion I told them the truth. I always used Shimano Curado reels and still do and have some from quite a few years ago and still believe they are the best reels made for the price range I was spending at the time. But I can also tell you that for my time working there I really became familiar with Bass Pro brands of rods, reels and baits and can tell you that over time I have bought carbonlite rods, reels, tackle boxes and tons of baits that I didn't use before a lot of the time because they were priced lower than other baits. Everything I dealt with was quality products and if there was ever an issue I saw customers being taken care to have the issue resolved. I might have had a slight advantage over some because of being a tournament angler for so many years but always saw other sales people whose sole purpose was to help customers in any way possible. Also there is no such thing as a quota for any one in sales in the department.

Those reels just hit the store literally a day or two ago, so I doubt there will be very much feedback out there regarding that reel.
It will have an accompanying rod as well (they haven't arrived yet). Very different from anything BPS has offered so far in a rod.
As far as parts go, for BPS specific reels, you can bring the reel in to the store and have it shipped off to the repair shop in Springfield. You can also contact the repair shop over the phone and have parts shipped directly.
Regarding the Pro Qualifier, when a customer asks for feedback or opinions, the Pro Qualifier is often cited due to its history. The proof is in the pudding on that one. It has received solid reviews for years, and at that particular price point (99$ regularly and on sale often for 79$) it doesn't have a lot of competition.

Brad, (need to come up and lets go fish Texhoma sometime)
Thank God they are blue and not black, you know I'd buy a bridge if it was black LOL. IF they were black I'd go bought pile of them.
I've had good luck with BPS reels, I bet its a good reel.
Someone mentioned parts. As far as parts, you can't buy parts for Cabelas, I've tired. BPS, I have a number to their reel repair in Springfield. I've never had problems getting what few parts I've needed over the years.
Thanks, Billy

I've have several carbonlite rods and a couple reels.....all bought cheap from someone chasing the rainbow..... They work good for me and compare favorably to the TFO Tactical rods and lews reels I I have as my primary outfits.....

I don't think so. There are to many good reviews about BPS reels. My experience was strange and the reel guy influenced my decision on that day by saying Abu was a better reel.

Pushing Lews was a bad way to put it. You are right, they didn't push it but I will say he went out of his way to make sure I was aware that they were carrying them again.
