I have a 2015 Slayer Propel 13 and it's a great kayak however, due to its weight it limits my access to certain areas. What would be a good light weight kayak to consider? I just need it for the area where launching is a challenge for heavier yaks

Ocean Kayak frenzy - 43 lbs, 9ft long - and fun as anything to paddle (and you can basically launch from anywhere) cheers

I threw on some Yak-attack tracks for mount points for rod holders. Can be a wet ride depending on your weight and what you are carrying.

9.5 Heritage Featherlite Sit in kayak is what I use. If the water is small and the launch is really difficult I highly recommend it. I weigh close to 210 and it works fine for me.

I have another "light" SOT Ocean Kayak Caper that is good too and it will handle any sort of rough water thrown at it, but still more difficult to carry down 30' of rip rap :-).

I built a kayak out of sheet foam and fiberglass 14'X28" that weighed less than 30 lbs with a seat and a paddle. I could carry it over one shoulder with a cooler and a rod on the other hand.
If you were looking for something really light, like under 20 lbs , an SOF (Skin On Frame) would be the ticket.

What about a better cart? I have a santa cruz raptor and the cart is the most all terrain cart made. I launch in as hard of spots as anyone.

The new Tarpon 120 Ultralite is reportedly 43 lbs. If it can handle abuse like the other Tarpons that would be your best bet.

That Tarpon 120 Ultralite is sweet; A little pricey for a second/partial use kayak, but it looks to be great quality/ride.

Not sure but Mariner Sails may still have several of the "uber-lightweight" Native Watercraft Compasses. The 12.5' only weighs 32# and the 10' 28#.

They show up in the clearance boat section of their web site www.mariner-sails.com.

Check with Dave or Ursula for details.

^^^ This is the way I'd go. RBR knows how to build them and it should run you less or at least the same to build as buy. It can also be customized for what you want rather than adapting things you need onto something that didn't come with it. wink They're surprisingly easy to build and make for a fun project over the winter. cool

I'm on other forums that deal with the old turbo powered Buicks.;)

I have a Hobie I-9. Very light but a little wet in the seat area... I sit on a cushion and get about 2 more inches above the water line.. But wind is still a splash problem... I really like the Hobie products.... Good Luck with trying out a lot of different options and get what you like...
