I know it's been posted but I'm horrible at finding things in this search function
Can anyone link some old threads to how to keep hooks from rusting or moisture out of tackle boxes?
I remember talking about little packets but don't remember where to get them

I have bought all the no rust stuff. They still rust. Best thing I have done so far is. Bring the boxes in that were exposed to rain or water and dry them out. I spray my hook/weight box with WD40. So far so goid

You can drill holes in your tackle trays to help drain water, and help vent.

You can get little Silica deals that will help absorb moisture...

Put your tackle in smaller boxes, and put those boxes inside another box.

But at the end of the day the only way to completely prevent rust is to get them out of the weather, and put a fan on them to dry.

I always open all of my deck bin doors, and blast a fan when I get in from the rain to help dry EVERYTHING out, but that's just me...

how is the moisture getting in? I try to make sure that I don't pull the lure out of the water, cut it off and place directly in the box. I have a spot on the deck where I toss the lures to dry. So far I have been rust free for 2 years without doing anything else. My boxes stay in a tackle bag on the deck exposed to the elements while fishing but I store it in the truck when not fishing

I used to have a lot of issues with rust in my boxes since I fish a lot out of a kayak and it's very hard to keep everything dry.

For the past 2 years, I have been using bull frog anti rust strips and their rust blocking spray and have had absolutely zero issues with rust. I use one strip per box and change them out annually. For the spray, empty everything out of the box and spray a couple squirts in there. Wipe it down with a paper towel in the grooves and crevices and let it dry.

The dash of my boat has a small tray, every lure I cut off goes in the tray until I load up then I sort everything out that gives it plenty of time to dry also I store my boat outside under cover and all my tackle comes in its a pain but I don't have any rust issues

Silica packs go a long way in rust prevention. You can buy them in bulk on amazon.

I keep all the little packets I get. Doesn't matter to me what it comes in then put them all in a panty hose sock. Then I through that in the corner of my rod boxes. Seems to do the trick so far.

I use a large piece of chalk and place it in one of the slots...I replace it when it starts to crumble...easy to buy in bulk ..and seems to work for my terminal tackle in preventing rust on hooks or snaps or swivels..

I have drastically cut down on the rust in my boxes with a simple fix I thought of from saving a cell phone. I don't have water that stays in the box, but used lures carry moisture into them. I add white rice to the container. It sucks out the water much the same way it can save a wet cell phone. I haven't had a rusted hook in my crank bait box since I started this. Just replace the rice once or twice per year.

the down side is that some will fall out when you open the box the get a new lure.... not to mention the bad jokes regarding taking lunch with me each fishing trip.

I have had positive results with the Bullfrog products. Have been testing several different types of products and they have worked the best.

Yes, some can get out, but it isn't too bad if you are paying attention when you open it wink

Cheap and easy
