As long as it ran good and the rebuild was done by a reputable mechanic.

I would say yes but qualify that with knowing who did the rebuild and exactly what was done. All rebuilds are not the same. And will the rebuilder back their work.

How long has it been since the rebuild? If it has run well for moths after the rebuild and the compression is good, then why not?

You take that chance on any used boat....unfortunately, there are some people out there that'd tell you the motor is good, when they know it isn't.....be diligent......take it to a mechanic prior to purchase....If the seller won't let you....look elsewhere....IMHO....

Are we talking about a $4K or $40K boat. I think that has a lot to do with my decision also.
Boatless for minute

There is more than one way to rebuild a motor. You either build it correctly. Or good enough. If the motor is freshly rebuilt and he is a motivated seller (red flag). There is a reason he just spent money to rebuild it but doesn't want to keep it. I favor new long block, oil pump, and send the injectors for cleaning.
P.S. A good honest reputable mechanic will not rebuild a motor chitty. His name is attached to this engine, incase something happens.

I would want to know what caused the motor to blow in the first place. If that wasn't fixed it may blow again.
