Sort of depends on what you want to accomplish. If you're looking for bites and keepers, smaller baits generally fill that need. If you're looking to get possibly fewer bites but targeting larger fish, then go with the bigger bait. Now, that doesn't mean this is 100% true all of the time but in general, bigger bait for bigger fish, smaller bait for more bites. As for color, a lot of that depends on water clarity. But then again, confidence in a particular bait/color is important too. The rule of thumb is typically, darker baits (or brighter colors) for darker water and lighter colors (translucent) for clearer water.

I kayak fish around Rockport/Corpus Area so I spend most of my time in shallow, clear waters so I prefer the 3" 1/4oz DOA Shrimp. Its lighter weight and smaller profile allow for a quieter entrance into the water so I don't spook reds. Main colors I throw are Glow/Copper Crush, Near Clear, and Gold Glitter.

For brackish waters the Gold Glitter would be a good choice since the gold would reflect well on sunny days in the tea color waters. If I fished more in dirty water I'd add their Chartreuse Pearl and Rootbeer/Chartreuse Tail. Nite Glow and Red/Silver Glitter/White Tail are other good all-around colors to have. The red/white tail shrimp tout combination is a classic pattern that has been catching fish for decades.

Can't recommend enough how great these baits are. Mr. Nichols, the owner of the company, is originally from Texas and still has all his baits made in the U.S. Lots of great video on how to use them. http://www.stuartrodandreel.com/Documents/004_doa_shrimp.pdf

They work great free lined at the Cedar Bayou fish pass as well !!! ... been using them for years - the 3" is the most versatile in this area.

I use a 6'6" medium/light with 10# mono with a 20# floro leader and seem to do OK.

Just a side note. I started using Vudu Shrimp last year and love it. Most of you know I'm a huge fan of GuLP!...and there have been times when Vudu out-fished it for me.
Now, Donald...please pick John Bolton for your running mate.
