Well, it is Winter in East Texas...at least the water temps are starting to fall down around 50 and we are having cold nights below freezing several days in a row...then back in the 40-50's. We should see more colder weather before it starts to warm up. It wouldn't be a stretch to say the bass are in their winter stage.. (for East Texas). Now of course we cannot count the power plant lakes. The bass spawned, moved slowly to deep water for the summer heat and schooled up... now the cold water is here. Lakes are turning over, vegetation is dying back, and water can be muddy at times.... I am not asking what to throw, what technique to use... people will catch bass beating the bank with spinners and people will catch bass in 35 feet of water... Knowing that bass move from deeper water up structure to feed means some bass will at least one time a day be close enough to the bank that bank fishermen will always catch something.. In your mind tell me what you think the bass's behavior is right now with the weather we have been having?

With all the ups and downs, rain and shine, wind, everything that has been going on, in my opinion, I don't think they know what to think or do. We have a week of warmer weather like right now and they might get a little excited! Then BAM big cold front shuts them down again just like this weekend will be. I know it happens every year just seems worse this year cause there hasn't been a long stretch of either hot or cold.
Gonna go out today around noon to catch a few before the front. Hopefully the fish have a good behavior for me

One of the best patterns is to target creeks. Fish the lip of the creek channel in 5 to 8 ft. right along the edge. This puts you off shore and pitching every big piece of timber along that lip. Every little point that runs off the bank out to it is a good spot to spend some time on. Use a Black/Blue jig and fish really slow working every piece of wood along that creek channel lip and any side creeks that intersect it. Using the side scan is really helpful to idle in the creek and shoot the adjacent cover running out to the creek lip.

^^^^ This is exactly what I noticed this past Wednesday. Most fish or the bigger fish seemed to be spread out in the creek beds. I was on a new lake and have never really targeted creek beds much so didn't have confidence in targeting it until later in the day. I was more focused on humps and points and beating the shoreline only to get skunked.
The only reason I know this is because I spent a ton of time graphing and running the area.

Best thing you can do is find the bait fish. Bass relate to bait fish during the winter. Chances are they are suspended.
