I broke a portion of my skeg off. Is the SS skeg covers any good? Or should I have a shop weld one back on? Thanks

How much do they charge for welding? I'll buy the part.

We can fix you right up at Steves custom Props. Price ranges from 125 to 195 depending on how much is gone.

From a former Evinrude exec in a Engineering History article:

Back then we didn't make many changes in the outboards. In fact, the model that Ole Evinrude sold in 1909 remained approximately the same until about 1912 when he added a skeg on the gearbox to ward off obstructions.

Never mind, from another boat forum...

driveability, cornering, steering torque.
and supposedly it protects the propeller.

thats why skegs are there.
