If you use stright braid on a spinning gear will it help reduce line twist?

Pretty new to braid. Loving that fact that it has virtually no memory. And since it has no memory will that prevent your line from coiling up in a tangling mess when using spinning gear after a few hard days of fishing?

No, it will not eliminate line twist. Braid is not affected by line twist like mono. It can't "coil up" since it is limp, not stiff.

It won't eliminate line twist; some attach a leader to the braid with a swivel, which does significantly reduce it.

My problem with braid on spinning gear was to keep it from binding around the spool. I couldn't get a nice run of line flowing.

I have used braid on spinning rig for 10 yrs. What I do is before u use it go to lake and with boat moving unspool line into lake, hold line w/ towel to wind back on spool. I do this every few times to lake, and no problems.
I also do this on baitcasters.

Wacopops is right. Close the bail manually rather than engaging the reel handle. That creates coil in any type of line.

Wacopops is right. Also good to close the bail manually rather than engaging the reel handle. That creates twist in any type of line.

"close the bail manually rather than engaging the reel handle"
THIS! That was the #1 thing I learned about spinning reels from a buddy who was a guide. Once I broke myself of that habit, there was an amazing difference.

Good answers. It definitely coils up, at least Sufix 832 10 lbs. braid does. But, the fact that you can look down at your line coming off the reel and see that it is sort of twisted up doesn't make it dysfunctional because the cloth-like braid doesn't have the elasticity of mono and fluoro where those others want to bounce back and unwind. So, I see it but it doesn't affect my line management.
I once tied on quite a length of a very good fluoro leader to my braid, Seaguar Invizx, enough that I could make casts with it and the junction knot stayed on the reel. I noticed almost immediately that the fluoro really coiled up. In this case, it led to those odd little wraps at the end of my rod that I had to manually unwind.
So, I quit that, reverted to just using 6 or so feet long fluoro leaders tied to braid, my favorite line combination. 10 lbs. Sufix 832 to 8 lbs. Seaguar Invizx. I have never had any issues with it flying off my spinning reel.
From the braid, you get: tiny diameters, no stretch, great sensitivity and line longevity. From the fluorocarbon leader, you get: a bit less stretch than mono (certainly after its initial stretching), pretty good sensitivity back up the system, invisibility in the water, and pretty good abrasion resistance (you'd always re-tie your leaders before another fishing trip anyway).
And, in addition to closing your bail by hand, be sure and never reel in against the drag. You should lift your rod and reel down on it. With a bait caster, you have other options.

I use mono as a backing and use a swivel and mono leader with no problems. Hint, do not overfill the spool.

Amen to that, forkduc, regarding not overfilling the spool. I did it once or twice when I was spooling on new mono line and I had a bit left on the line spool, thought since it would otherwise go to waste, that I'd wind it on the reel where it still had a little visible capacity left. Not a good idea! Always leave at least a slight gap between the line and the edge. I got the equivalent of a wind knot, hard to do on spinning tackle . . . unless you overfill it.
Lots of good ideas today. Another is when you are spooling new line on a spinning reel, it should come off the underside of the line spool, like a soft ball underhanded pitcher. A bait caster is the opposite and it should come off the top like and overhand pitch.
This is not as important for braid because it essentially has no winding bias off the line spool but it helps a lot for mono and fluoro.
Now, if the discussion would just morph into the real way to hold a spinning rod, the difference in its casting motion, etc.
Another day.
