Since I live near Huntsville, I've been hitting Raven regularly over the last two weeks just for kicks. It's quiet and peaceful.

We all know Raven isn't a "numbers" lake but there's some big fish there.

Each day out I caught a single 4 lb fish, even though I've been working it hard.. until yesterday.

I noticed A LOT OF bait fish, lots of activity in the main lake opposite the boat dock. Grabbed a trusty 2.5 shallow crank in citrus shad (water was really stained) and just fan casted all over. From 10 feet deep, casted towards the shore line, and slowly reeled that little crank expecting "nothing, as usual" - then... WHAMMO

Congrats! Looks like the lake has recovered from last year. It was completely covered with vegetation last time I was there, could barely even idle around.

Great fish and good for you!

In about 2 to 3 years, another large fish in Raven will decide to bite a hook. I only have but so many quality fishing years left. I could die of old age waiting for a decent fish to jump my lure on that lake. IMO.

Sad to hear that Raven is not fishing well. years back when there was hydrilla, I would go there with a buddy and catch 20-30 each day. Most after the sun had com up and the fish sat on the edge of the hydrilla in 15 feet of water and I would throw a wacky worm and wear them out. Ever since they killed the grass, it seems that the fishing has gone down hill. now I would throw frogs across the pads on warm mornings.
