Last year I went to the boat show in Mesquite and was very disappointed - certainly not the show I remember from years ago! Anything better in the area that you would recommend?

Fun n Sun for sure and don't waste you time attending the Dallas Boat Show either.....It more geared to yuppies than fishermen...........

The explosion of basspro and cabelas locations has pretty much killed off boat shows. I know a retailer who took a bunch of stuff to our local show a couple years ago, after paying his fees for being there and getting lunch he made less than $100 for the whole 4 days. I grew up near Omaha NE and remember the yearly show filling 3 floors of the civic audatorium(not a small venue at all). The classic expo might be the last of the big sport shows.

If u make money at the show u did awesome, if u make money due to being at the show that is good(Meaning some customers buy after the show). Seems like this past Sunday at Houston, they had good amount of people and sales were good.

The internet killed the awesome boat/fishing show deals... now they seem to be more of a social event than anything. Dont get me wrong, its a great place to go and check out new products, mabey even get your hands on a hard to find bait or piece of equipment that you've been looking for. Just dont expect to see those killer price cuts and great deals like the old school shows used to have. thumb

Fun N Sun Boat Show is Free Parking and Free Entry! That is the way to go. A real good thing about Boat Shows is that you get a chance to talk to and meet the Pros and find out little bits and pieces that will help you in your fishing. For instance, Todd Faircloth did a seminar on rattletrap fishing and he uses braided line and a medium action rod. Because of the sensitivity of braid, the medium rod will allow the fish to inhale the bait and the braid will cut the grass. But I don't think grass will be a problem this year because I heard it was gone. lol Fun N Sun has some new Pros coming and I can't wait to pick their brains and see the new Skeeters! See ya' there.

I went to the Houston Boat Show last year and it was okay. It took 2 hours to get there, find parking and walk in the door. It was not crowded but I wasn't impressed with the prices for the products. I'd rather go to BPS in Katy.
