Hey guys I just wanted to know your opinions on what you think is the best kayak or kayaks suited for river fishing. I am 6'2" 225lbs. This will most likely be my designated river boat. What's your thoughts on the native slayer 12? Thanks

I have heard those are some great kayaks especially for the creeks...although I have heard the tracking is not as good as it could be!!

I had a Slayer 12 foot lime green..... waited, and waited, and waited for it...did not try it out before I bought it ( my bad ) very SLOW, HEAVY, would not Track............ Look at the ride 115, or wait and look at the Tarpon 130x.........just my opinion.....Just make sure and try it out!!!!

I use a Wilderness Ride 115 and a Ride 115X. I started out with a Ride 115 and then got it in my mind I needed a Jackson Cuda 12. I bought the Cuda without doing a demo ride in it. I am 5'9" and weigh about 225. The Cuda 12 was not the kayak I needed. After getting dumped out 3 different time just getting in and out of the Cuda 12 I have now exclusively use the Wilderness Ride 115X. Another lesson I learned I learned is always, always demo a kayak before you buy it. So the short answer is Demo a Ride 115 and buy a Ride 115. You will be glad you did.

The Coosa and Coosa HD by Jackson Kayak are great choices. Let me know if you want to try one out.

Gonna have to give another vote to wilderness. I loved paddling my ride 135 going down the brazos with Bert. Now that I'm down on the coast though, I've switched over to an outback 2015, but I'd still like to pick up another Ride for rivers.

I would have to agree with most of the above. I have not tried a Coosa HD so can't speak about it but before I became a Wilderness guy I had 3 other kayaks. When it came time for my forth I had learned about how important it is to demo. I tried them all and it took a few months. Now I own a couple Wilderness systems and waiting on my third. I suggest you demo as many as you can. Not sure your location but Mariner Sails can set you up a demo in the Slayer and the Ride so you can try them side by side. They are the kayakers toy store and you might find several other brands they have that you can try.

Demo the Ultimate 12FX. Open deck, fairly fast, stable. Any river boat, working the currents - get a rudder!

I've got a Coosa HD and a Ride 115X. Overall, I prefer the Coosa because of the layout. Both are comparable in maneuverability with the Ride being better in straight, flat water paddling. I think the type of rivers you're talking about can make a big difference too. I prefer some of the smaller, faster rivers in AR where maneuverability is at more of a premium. As opposed to something like the Brazos where you need something that can go down AND UP river on much flatter water. I'm not familiar with the Navasota so can't advise there.
