Tied up a few new patterns today....

And, I did some house cleaning (took out 300 jigs that I need to get rid of) so I could start fresh and try to organize this mess! Is there any down side to storing these jigs this way (previously had them all bagged)?

Then there are my "junk" boxes that I take fishing with me:

I'd rather be fishing, but tying seems to be a great alternative when I can't!!
Good fishing everyone.

Thanks gentlemen....the boxes are a little bare, but should be adding 20-30 jigs a day to them so I'll be set for the spring...LOL

Well you ask if there is any down side to keeping jigs like that, only thing is after they have been in there a while (don't know how long) at some point the tails probably will not be straight and have more curve one way or the other.

I use plastic boxes that are actually for storing pictures. Each large box hold a lot of small boxes and I hot glued some foam in the bottom of the small boxes to stick the hooks in so they can hang straight or lie flat!

Same here, but I glue'd in some cork.

You can cut out the dividers and do the same thing to the bigger box's also...

Nice idea REDGUN and think both within work just fine. I do make sure that when closed and I pick the r tire box up that all jigs are then hanging head down!

The only trouble I have had with cork is the sickle hooks don't stick good the point is in to far. But I have solid cork, and think it would be better like Redgun has his. Wal-Mart has a box that is for spinner baits that works real good but think they cost about 12 bucks each. But they are pretty much ready as is for the cork.

Thank you everyone for the advice!!!

Jerry T - I took your advice and got rid of the "[censored]" (LOL) , so my inventory took a big hit! I hope to add 30 per day to those boxes....that will get me back in the game by mid-March.

Ands thanks for the vote of confidence...had a pretty good teacher!

Wow - can't believe the word "cra p" is censored.

Ya know, Chris..... I am going to give out my entire jig box as soon as I have an evening to retie my own. Feel like I'm always improving and want to carry good baits with me. I'll find a kid or old-timer and give them what I currently have. Win-win for everyone. I do this a minimum of twice/year.

As for the storage, I line my boxes with this stuff:

It cuts to size REAL easy and I've had my current jig box almost 4 years and still haven't had to replace it. I imagine I can fit 200-300 jigs in one box, which is enough for me. I've used the teal color and pink color polyethylene foams and like them both. The lighter weight the material, the longer it seems to last/barbs don't tear it up as quick.

I redid my boxes also, lined the bottom with foam so the hooks are stuck into it, when they bounce around in the boxes they get all tangled up hard to sort through and the hook wrap up around the feather and chenille. I just bagged up about a 200 jigs into 6 packs, I trade them out to the guy who owns a fishing dock, I let him sell them and let him keep the money for allowing me to fish the dock for free, I get rid of my old jigs and it's its incentive to tie new ones. I also keep some sample bags ready to go when I see kids fishing I'll always give them some, I love to see the kids out fish their dads with my Jigs, the dads will always buy some from me after that, not in it for the money it just means I can order more stuff to keep tying with

I use pipe insulation, slice it in half and glue it down in my boxes, removed all the little compartment dividers just leaving long sections, the insulation fits perfect and the hooks stick in easily, hold good and remove without tearing up the foam.
