Do you have to have a 4x4 to get to the bay side of San Luis? Looking to get down there this month. Used to go alot when I was a kid, and my dad always made it out there in a 2 wheel drive suburban. Dont know if things have changed. Is the bay side still good fishing this time of year?

If your fishing the Galveston side I would highly recomomend a 4x4 but I've made it out there almost getting stuck with a 2 wheel drive.

I have done it a bunch in 2wd. Don't drive on deep, loose sand. I get out and walk those big puddles to make sure they have hard bottoms and are not too deep. Just be smart and don't fart.

Thanks! Do you know if you can camp on either one of the sides of San Luis?

I think you can on the Galveston side and I'm not sure about the Freeport side.

You technically aren't allowed to camp on the Galveston side but no one has gotten in trouble for camping there in years, idk about the Freeport side. Last time I was there (thanksgiving) you did not need a 4x4 to get there, just check the sand if you aren't sure and walk through any water you see to make sure it's not too soft

You'll always miss 100% of the shots you don't take.

Other than getting robbed or raped while camping, they say it's not too bad. smile
