Tried several different other materials, but I really like the car roof rack mat material. It's the same material sold to protect boats from trailer rash. It's very durable, easy to cut with sheers/knife/scissors. Adheres well with two part epoxy/JB weld. It's cheap and light. The material can be found at Walmart in the RV section, Amazon Prime, and Academy in the Marine section.

That's pretty inexpensive, thanks.
I've been reading that some folks are using yoga mats as deck matting to stand on their kayaks. I'm thinking of doing the same.
Bass Pros' redesigned 2016 Ascends already come with matting for their FS128s.

I found the Reese roof top here in town for $7 on clearance. Will finish install tomorrow on my fs12t. Thanks for the idea.

Excellent, please post pics of your mod and some feedback. To improve adhesion, I would scuff the area with 100grit sandpaper and clean with rubbing alcohol prior to two part epoxy/jb weld.
