I got on the water for a few hours this morning. It was 50 degrees with a thick fog when I launched. The fog eventually lifted, but it stayed cloudy and dark all day. Winds were from the south, and never got up too much until after I was off the water. Water temp was 50 to 51 degrees where I was. It's almost two weeks since the flood, but the lake is still pretty muddy, at least the upper half of it is. I never made it down to the lower lake today. It was a tough bite, but I kept catching a fish here and a fish there, and ended up with 10 keepers. I was fishing with the same two jig rig I've been using lately. Purple/chartreuse was the color again. All but one of the fish went for the bigger 1/8 oz jig below. I caught them 12 to 13 feet deep, in 13 to 20 feet of water, on concrete and drop-offs. Today's fish didn't average as big as what I've been catching the last couple of months, but five of them were nice solid fish. I cleaned four and released the rest. It was a funny bite today. I usually hold a jig perfectly still, or twitch it lightly. Neither of those presentations got bit today at all. They wanted the jig raised, then lowered. They would hit it on the fall. When I'm fishing vertically this time of year, I usually use two rods. I hold one, and put one in a rod holder. I caught the first four fish on the rod holder rod. That pretty much never happens. Finally, I figured out that the bouncing up and down of the boat was constantly raising and lowering the jig, and that was the action it needed to get bit. Once I started fishing the rod in my hand that way, it also got bit. It was one of the lightest bites I've ever seen. I never got a solid thump at all today. This 8 pound black bass gave me quite a tussle. For some reason, there were no crappie at all on that particular part of the drop-off. LOL.

Good job figuring them out Bud. That always makes if fun when you can get tuned in on them and go to catching. Post the bass on the bass site...not! No need getting them stirred up.

Good job! The bite in centex has been off, to nothing the last couple of weeks.

Haha, awesome post with the "oh yeah, caught an 8 lb. bass too" line. When in doubt, set it in a rod holder and answer a phone call, guaranteed bite.
